When to travel to Argentina, region by region
Argentina spans 4,000 km north to south. Picking the right month for the right region is the single biggest planning decision — here's how we think about it.
Argentina spans roughly the same north-south distance as Cairo to Helsinki. There is no "best month" for the country — only best months for individual regions. The combination you choose dictates the calendar more than your preferences do.
This guide is the rule of thumb we use in our own planning conversations.
Region-by-region windows
North West (Salta, Jujuy)
April to October. The dry season is spectacular for the colour-saturated valleys. May–September is the most reliable; January–February sees rain that can close mountain roads.
North East (Iguazú, Iberá)
March to November. Avoid January–February for heat and humidity peaks. Iberá is rewarding year-round if you accept variable weather.
Central (Buenos Aires, Mendoza)
October to April for the city; March–May is harvest season in Mendoza and our favourite window.
Patagonia
November to March (austral summer). Most lodges and the El Chaltén trails close or scale back from May to September.
For multi-region trips, the windows narrow. North West + Patagonia is plausible only in November, March, and April — outside those, one of the two is at the edge of its season.
The configurator factors this in: tell it your dates and the regions you want, and incompatible combinations are filtered out automatically.
